Alert: 2026 Psychedelic Bill Push Nears Close with 17 Laws Enacted; Ibogaine Emerges as Defining Theme

The 2026 psychedelic policy reform push is largely past its peak with most legislatures adjourned, resulting in 17 new psychedelics-related laws enacted across state and federal levels, with a significant portion signed in May. While psilocybin remains prominent through rescheduling laws, ibogaine has emerged as a key focus, with 6 of 25 introduced bills enacted and one nearing passage in New Hampshire. Merchants should review state-specific regulations for these new laws, especially those impacting psilocybin and ibogaine access and distribution.

The 2026 psychedelic policy reform push is largely past its peak, with many legislatures adjourned. Out of 115 tracked psychedelics-related bills (108 state, 7 federal), 17 distinct measures have been signed into law this year, with a significant number enacted in May. In contrast, 2 bills were vetoed, 44 died, and approximately 50 measures remain pending. While psilocybin-focused laws, particularly those related to pharmaceutical rescheduling, continue to be enacted, ibogaine has become a prominent theme. Of the 25 ibogaine-focused bills introduced in 14 states, 6 have been enacted, with New Hampshire's HB1772 a single vote away from passage, potentially pushing ibogaine's success rate above 25% for the year.
